How to Build Your Escape Plan
This plan is ideal for beginners, no matter what your age.
Each phase focuses on small, consistent actions that stack up over time.
Months 1–2: Choose a Path + Learn the Basics
Right now, you don’t need a business…you need direction.
Spend these first two months researching online income paths that suit your lifestyle, time, and interests. Some examples are:
- Freelancing – writing, admin, design, consulting
- Selling digital products – ebooks, templates, courses
- Affiliate marketing – recommending other people’s products for commission
- Content creation – email newsletters, blogs, YouTube
Take this time to explore and learn. Read articles, watch videos, follow creators doing what you want to do. You don’t need to rush it. Clarity now will save you time later on.
By the end of the second month, you should know your income path and have a shortlist of simple ideas to test.
Months 3–4: Set Up a Simple System
Now the real work begins! You don’t need to build something fancy, just a minimum viable product.
If you’re freelancing, you can create a simple offer and start reaching out to clients.
If you’re building a newsletter, you can start collecting emails and post once a week.
If you’re selling products or promoting affiliates, you can create a one-page website.

By the end of Month 4, you should have your first digital asset or offer online, ready for real people to see.
Months 5–6: Create Content + Build Trust
So now you have something to offer. You just need people to see it.
Start creating content that genuinely helps your audience. Keep it simple.
There’s no need to go viral. Just show up regularly. Consistency is key.
Repurpose everything. A blog can become an email. A tip can become a video.
By the end of Month 6, you should have a consistent content rhythm and a small list or audience that trusts you.
Months 7–9: Start Monetising
Now it’s time to turn your project into a business!
You’re not aiming for huge profits yet…just proof that people will pay.
Test these simple monetisation methods:
- Offer a paid call, service or audit
- Sell an ebook, cheat sheet or template
- Promote an affiliate product that fits your audience
- Bundle old content into a small product
Don’t get caught up in perfection. Launch fast, learn fast. Progress beats perfection every time!
Start looking for signs of traction. This could be people replying to your emails, or reader asking questions. It might even be sales or affiliate commissions.
By the end of Month 9, you should have made your first bit of income, and proof that this can work.
Months 10–12: Refine, Repeat, and Scale
If you’ve made it this far, well done! Most people don’t.
Now your focus is on doubling down on what works.
- Create a second offer or improve your first
- Automate onboarding and follow-up with email sequences
- Outsource small tasks (design, editing, admin)
- Start tracking your revenue and aiming to replace part of your salary
This is the time to plan your exit strategy. Ask yourself:
- What’s your monthly income goal?
- What do you need to feel safe leaving your job?
- What buffers (savings, income streams) do you want in place?
By the end of Month 12, you should have a growing side business, a confident plan — and a real decision to make.

I started my journey like most people. I was confused, overwhelmed, and full of false starts.
But once I committed to one simple path and focused on taking small daily steps, things changed fast.
This plan isn’t about overnight success. It’s about building momentum…and that’s more powerful than motivation.
