How to Use AI to Build an Online Income

If you’re already freelancing, have you noticed how it feels different these days?

It’s not just about pitching your skills anymore. The rise of AI tools has completely changed the game. And for people like us, looking for ways to build side hustles or make money with AI, that’s actually very good news.

Here’s why

A few years ago, freelancing meant long hours, juggling clients, and spending way too much time on boring admin. But now… almost every part of the freelance life can be supercharged with AI.

Writers are using ChatGPT and Jasper to draft blog posts, sales pages, and newsletters.

Designers are creating fast mock-ups with Canva AI or full-on artwork with MidJourney.

Web designers are building web pages with Replit or Bolt.

Developers lean on GitHub or Copilot to handle repetitive code, while they focus on the clever stuff that clients really value.

Video editors are using Runway to cut clips in minutes instead of hours.

Voiceover freelancers are landing gigs thanks to ElevenLabs.

Translators and tutors are blending AI with their own expertise to work faster and reach more people.

Social media managers are filling entire content calendars with the help of AI scheduling tools.

The list of possibilities is endless!

It’s no wonder surveys show that almost three-quarters of freelancers are already using AI. And about half say their earnings have gone up because of it.

Think about that for a second. The old barrier to entry — having to be highly technical or needing years of experience, is lower now. You can learn the basics of a tool in a weekend. Add your personality, your taste, your judgment… and suddenly you’ve got something valuable to offer.

That being said, it does mean that the market is getting saturated, so you need to really stand out if you want to get ahead of the pack.

But, AI is why freelancing with AI is still a big opportunity in 2025. The work is still creative and itstill needs a human spark. But the hard, time-consuming parts can be handed off.

Imagine starting a side hustle as a content writer who delivers polished blog posts twice as fast. Or offering quick-turnaround designs for small businesses who can’t wait three weeks for a logo. Or editing short-form videos for creators who just want their clips out today, not tomorrow.

And here’s something I’ve noticed…

Clients don’t just want AI output. They want results.

Look, anyone can ask AI to do the work. The thing is, it looks like it was created by AI, and people can tell!

That’s where you come in. The AI is just your assistant. You’re still the expert who makes the call.

When I first played with AI in my own projects, I’ll admit, I felt uneasy. Was I cutting corners? But then I realised I wasn’t replacing myself…

I was giving myself space. Instead of slogging through the slow bits, I could focus on creativity, strategy, and the type of work that I actually enjoyed.

I honestly believe were in a time where we have opportunities to make money that have never existed before. Provided that you’re willing to put in the effort.

That’s the opportunity sitting in front of you right now. Not to compete with the machines, but to partner with them. To build a business or a side hustle that works faster, earns more, and still feels uniquely yours.

So here’s my challenge for you
