If I had access to the AI tools we have today back when I first tried making money online, I would’ve saved myself a lot of trial and error.
Fast forward to now and the free AI tools available to beginners are unbelievable.
And the best part, many of them are completely free!
That’s the part a lot of people overlook. They assume they need expensive software or complex systems, but you really don’t.
If anything, the biggest challenge these days is deciding which tools are actually worth using.
ChatGPT is still one of my favourites. It helps you write, plan, think, clarify and organise. You don’t need perfect prompts. You just need to tell it what you’re trying to do.
Perplexity is another one I wish existed years ago. Back when I was researching how to start side hustles or learning how to create content for clients, I spent hours digging through forums and Google results. Perplexity removes all of that. It gives you clear, sourced answers within seconds. It’s unbeatable for quick research, comparisons and simple explanations.
Canva has become the closest thing to having a graphic designer in your pocket…and it’s free!
CapCut makes video editing almost effortless.
Then there’s Replit. It looks technical at first glance, but it’s really not.
You can describe a simple website or tool you want to build, and Replit will generate the first version for you. If you’ve ever wanted to make a landing page, a calculator, a lead magnet tool or even a basic app, this is the easiest way to get something up and running without paying a developer.
Replit isn’t free, but its a game-changer if you have an app or website idea.
Back when I was trying to get my first £500 a month online, I didn’t have anything like this.
If I’d had ChatGPT to help me write content or Canva to speed up design work, I would have hit that milestone much sooner.
If you’re starting now, you only need one small idea and one simple tool to support it.
It doesn’t need to be complicated. You could offer a few social media posts each month, use ChatGPT to write the captions, use Canva to create the designs, then deliver it consistently. Four clients at £125 a month and you’re at £500. It’s straightforward, achievable and doesn’t require experience.
You can apply the same approach to video editing with CapCut, research-based tasks with Perplexity or simple web projects with Replit. The tools handle the heavy lifting. You just bring the willingness to learn and deliver.
If I were starting again today, I wouldn’t waste time overthinking the perfect business.
I’d pick one of these free tools, choose one offer and do it consistently for a month.
That’s all you need to start building momentum.
