Do you ever feel like there’s a constant tug of war between your job, your side hustle, and everything else life throws at you?
I’ve been there…
I used to finish each day feeling wiped out. Like I’d given everything to work, but somehow still hadn’t done enough.
Then I made one simple change. I started blocking out time for each part of my life. That might sound a bit regimented, but it works!
Blocking time out every day helps keep me stay motivated, I get stuff done, and I don’t feel guilty for switching off.
If you want to achieve a good work-life balance without burnout, then read on!
Why balance matters more than people think
When your day job eats up all your energy, your sleep suffers, fun gets binned off, and any hope of starting a new online oncome slowly fades into the background.
The thing is, balance doesn’t mean giving everything an equal slice of time. It just means giving each part enough time to stay alive and well.
That’s what keeps your motivation ticking and your energy up.
My simple time-blocking setup
Here’s how I split my week:
Day job (9 to 5)
That’s work time. Calls, emails, all the usual stuff. I close everything else down, stay off my phone, and keep it focused.
Reset break
As soon as I’m done, I take an so. Usually I’ll go to the gym, eat dinner, or go for a walk. Just something to break the rhythm and clear my head.
Evening Project slot
I usually give this an hour. Two if I’m feeling sharp. I don’t overcomplicate things. I pick one useful task and get it done.
Weekend deep work
I usually do this on weekend mornings if I have no other plans. A couple of focused hours each day. There’s still loads of time left for family, socials, life admin, and lazy coffees.
The key here is giving each part of your life its own clear space. No blending. No guilt. Just focused attention.
And this is where ChatGPT comes in
I use it constantly to save time and brainpower.
It’s kind of amazing how powerful it is and I can barely imagine life without it now!
If you’ve got a side hustle (or any project), here are five ways it can seriously lighten the load:
1. Quick to-do lists
Tell it your goal, and be as detailed as possible. It’ll give you a step-by-step plan you can copy into your notes or planner.
2. First drafts on autopilot
Have you got a rough idea? Hand it over to ChatGPT. It’ll write a first draft while you make a brew.
3. Idea generation
Ask ChatGPT. It’s like having a creative mate who never runs out of ideas and never takes a break!
4. Research assistant
Want a tool comparison? A quick explainer? Get a summary from ChatGPT without falling into a two-hour Google rabbit hole.
5. Pep talks and productivity boosts
Feeling a bit meh? Ask for a motivational quote or a reward idea. It’s a small lift, but it can change the vibe of your whole evening.
Mini action for the week
Open your calendar. Block out your day job and current commitments. Then choose one hour in the evening and make it sacred. Like an appointment with yourself.
When you’re done, give yourself a little tick. Do it again the next day. That’s it.
You’ll be amazed how far that gets you.
If you try this “block and protect” method, you’ll see progress. And if you want help using ChatGPT to make things easier, just comments below and I’ll send over my free 7-day course. It’s designed for beginners and walks you through how to actually use the tool in daily life.
